Meetings @ St. Barnabas Church, Swanland

St Barnabas Church, Swanland has a number of meetings/groups.

This section of the web site contains an outline of the main meetings/groups that take place in the church building.

Several 'cell groups' (small groups of 6 - 12 people) also meet on different nights of the week in members' homes.
To be put in touch with a conveniently located group please contact the office.

Sunday: Morning Services

Please note: a large, well-equipped and free creche is available at all services and there is also an area at the back of church for small chldren and their parents/ carers. On the 1st Sunday of the month the 10.30/45 service is for all ages together.

 

 

9:00 am - Holy Communion: 'traditional'

 

Common Worship usually

Following the pattern of the Book of Common Prayer ('1662') on about one Sunday a month (usually the 4th Sunday of the month)

 

  • Liturgy, as above, in separate booklets.

  • Hymns led from our modern Copeman Hart computer organ (2 manuals + pedals)

  • followed by free refreshments (joined by members coming for the 10.45 service)

 

 10.30 for 10.45am: Contemporary Worship - informal

         

refresh - 1st Sunday of each month

informal cafe-style around tables, with music, visuals, engaging talks and fresh coffee with refreshements throughout

Communion Together: 2nd and 4th Sundays

 

Morning Celebration: 3rd and 5th Sundays

vibrant worship, testimony from a member of the church family, a look at God's word in an accessible way, and openness to the ministry of the Spirit

At all 10.30/45 services:

  • Band-led worship: modern songs with occasional classic hymns 

     

  • Dynamic and relevant preaching, often with use of multi-media

     

  • Song words and any liturgy on video projection screen 

      

  • Children and young people in their own groups for part of the service (in term time)

 

  • On the 2nd and 4th Sundays we share Holy Communion together as a church family

     

  • Opportunity to talk and/or pray with others afterwards

  • Free refreshments before every service (and after on request!)
 

 

Sunday: Evening Services

Sundays @ 6:30 PM - reflective

 

Informal worship - most Sundays of the month. A time to worship God in Spirit and freedom and to listen to him speaking. Occasionally we will share in a simple communion together.

Special services - usually 4th or 5th Sundays - e.g. United service with other Christians, "Rock Eucharist", etc.

There may be also be special services on certain weeks: please check the Events section for up-to-date information.

Monday        8:30-9.20am Prayers in the lounge.

Tuesday       8:30am Prayers in the lounge.

Tuesday        10:30am - 12 noon Cygnets' group (for babies and pre-schoolers) - during term time

Wednesday   10am   Church open for prayer (in the coffee lounge)

Thursday      8:30am Morning Prayer in the lounge.

Thursday       10am-12 noon 'Coffee Chat' in the lounge (most Thursdays)

Friday           8:30-9:30am  Prayers in the lounge

Friday            1.30-2.15pm Chair exercise group in the hall

Saturday       from noon  Church open for prayer (in the coffee lounge)
