Archbishop claims multiculturalism is destroying UK unity

Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York, has given a lecture criticising Britain ’s loss of a common ‘big vision’ and the influence of multicultural policies. Dr Sentamu took his attack to the influential Smith Institute, a Labour think tank. He believes the decline began with the loss of the Empire, which made the UK lose its ‘outward–looking perspective’, and continued as the country failed to integrate immigrants. The Archbishop said: ‘As the vision for Britain became more introspective, I believe we became more self–absorbed… Migrants to Britain from the 1960s onwards have made their home with their cultural rights protected under legislation framed under a multicultural perspective. Consequently any sense of a shared common culture is eroded.’
